The "Beefmobile Wrangler" visits livestock marketing facilities to provide beef producers with information on Beef Checkoff research results and promotional activities. This program specifically targets beef producers who market cattle primarily through livestock auction barns as well as all dairy producers as they market cull cows, heifers and calves through livestock auction facilities.

In addition, the “Beefmobile” visits strategically selected grocery stores and food festivals across the United States to promote the use of beef to consumers. Promotional literature will be disseminated, including but not limited to beef recipes and informational brochures on the benefits of beef in a healthy diet. Stops will also be made at select schools along the route to provide interested educators with free materials with which to teach about beef.

This position requires a very specific set of qualifications. A successful candidate should posses the following characteristics:

  • Be extremely comfortable while speaking to many types of individuals – both individually and in front of groups. The position will require the “Wrangler” to talk with beef producers, livestock auction personnel, and consumers of nearly every type.
  • Be thoroughly knowledgeable about the beef industry and have a passion about speaking of beef’s benefits. In addition, the position will require a thorough knowledge of the programs funded by the Beef Checkoff and the results of those programs and how they have impacted the demand for beef.
  • Be an individual of extremely high character and integrity as the “Wrangler” will be a visible representative of the beef industry and of the Beef Checkoff.
  • Be willing to devote a significant amount of time to travel away from home and be able to meet the specific requirements of the strategic schedule provided by the “Beefmobile” coordinator.

This is a contractual position. The “Beefmobile Wrangler” will be required to complete a specified number of visits to livestock marketing facilities and consumer venues. The “Wrangler” will be paid on a bi-weekly basis with a final bonus payment when all stops have been completed. “Wrangler” will be allowed a stipulated per diem to cover lodging and meals, and will be provided with a laptop computer and cellular telephone so that communications may be efficiently accomplished.

The successful candidate must meet the following specific requirements:

  • Have graduated with a degree in an animal science, agricultural science, or communications discipline; or have completed a significant amount of class work in those areas.
  • Be successful in completing focused media training and education on programs funded through the Beef Checkoff. (Provided by NLPA after successful applicant is identified.)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and be able to drive a vehicle comparable in size to a 15-passenger van.
  • Be able to operate the “Beefmobile” in a manner that conveys professionalism while being cognizant of the fact that beef producers’ dollars are being used to fund the program.

Compensation will be discussed with interested applicants during initial telephone interviews. Possibility may exist for full-time employment with National Livestock Producers Association for successful candidate.
